Does anyone know who the best docs in LA are??? My MIL is seeing a nuerologist in Thousand Oaks who has other LBD patients, but how do I find out if he's the best? _________________ curious/confused daugther-in-law |

Is Irvine too far? I think very highly of Dr. Neal Hermanowicz at UCI. He's a movement disorder specialist.
I recently handled brain donation arrangements for an Oxnard family. The gentleman with LBD sees Dr. Robert Hutchman at the Hutchman Neuroscience Center in Reseda. The family really likes Dr. Hutchman. I heard him speak recently and thought he was terrible but the topic was not LBD-specific.

Two other ideas for how to get referrals:
1) call the APDA Information & Referral Center nearest you and tell them "Robin Riddle from Stanford" recommended you contact them for an LBD MD referral. See apdaparkinson.org for a map/list of the Information & Referral Centers in the US.
2) call the nearest chapter of the Alzheimer's Association and ask them for an LBD MD referral. See alz.org |

Dr. Neal Hermanowicz is much more a PD specialist and when I spoke with his office (he also practices in Rancho Mirage/Palm Springs) they really didn't feel an LBD patient would benefit as much as from a dementia specialist.
I'd suggest Dr. Helena Chui, head of USC's Memory and Aging Center at the Keck School of medicine who is a brain-behavior dementia specialist. Before Jerome and I moved to Indiana, I had an assessment scheduled for him with Dr. Chui and was very impressed with the pre-appointment stuff that we were asked to complete. _________________ Renata (and Jerome) |

Got a few more names for you to ask around about:
At UCLA's Alzheimer's Disease Center:
Jeffrey L. Cummings, MD, Director
John Ringman, MD
http://www.adc.ucla.edu
At Cedars-Sinai Medical Center's Memory Disorders Program:
Robert M. Cohen, MD, PhD
http://www.csmc.edu/12934.html
I suggest that you consult with the APDA Information & Referral Center Coordinators (mentioned above) to get the inside scoop on these MDs. |

Thanks Robin. We are in the process of finding a new facility for MIL to move into. Once we've got her settled, I will work on finding her a new doctor.
I appreciate your in-put. This is becoming a full-time job!
