Field Trip! I'm going to Seattle (2 hours away) today, on a weekday, to a retirement seminar. First time I've been over an hour away from my Mom in 6 months. And to a retirement seminar...still a couple of years away but the first, visible step to my co-workers that I'm not going to be there forever.

I feel like a kid going into New York City with my classmates back when I was a teen. I'm gonna enjoy this.

Really good idea to plan for retirement very early. Turns out I retired just as the economy was tanking, but hey, I'm enjoying it! You cut down on expenses, get fun, interesting, higher paying part time work, and you can make it work. It's also nice not worrying about having good weather on the weekends - you can plan outdoor activities according to the weather, not a work schedule. It's SO nice! Lynn

I'm getting away again, but this time for five days. I'm going to a beautiful resort on Whidbey Island (WA) to take a self-improvement course. Great food, lovely place, good people, the weather is gorgeous, and I get to think about myself, only. My cell phone won't work there and I've given the emergency number out to only two people. My husband will take over for me with the notebook I made up listing all of Mom's doctors, a copy of the Boeve Continuum, caregiver numbers, etc. The instructions are no calling me unless she breaks a bone. I feel so lucky.
